CHARYL AND JOSH {Charlotte Engagement Photographer}
P-A. P-A-T-R. P-A-T-R-I-O-T-S Patriots! Whooooo!
For all you “Big I” alumni, this post is for you. I know Charyl and Josh from back in the day. We all went to Independence High School, affectionately referred to by its present and former students as “The Big I”. Well… at least I hope they still call it that, or else that would be a huge disappointment.
I don’t know about you, but high school wasn’t the “worst experience of my life” as some people claim it was for them. Mine was pretty awesome. When I attended Independence (pre-high school football championships), it was the perfect melting pot of all kinds of cultures and crews. For the most part, we all got along. Our groups of jocks/rednecks/cool kids/geeks weren’t as segregated as most high schools and the majority of students fell into more than one of those cliques. That’s not to say we were perfect by any means but for the most part, more lines were blurry than were in focus.
High school is where I decided I would major in Art in college, it’s where I took my first photography class – you know – where you make your own camera out of a shoe box and process your own black and white prints, it’s where I found two of my very best friends and met two beautiful women who are not just friends but I get the privilege of calling “sister.”
Though Charyl and Josh both went to Independence (well, Josh ended up transferring to another school but he’s a Patriot at heart), they started dating shortly after high school and have been together ever since! They both attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and met in Sanford Hall, one of the oldest dorms on campus, where they were one floor apart – rooms 419 and 519. They would meet between classes at the Belk Tower or near Fretwell and would go to Bingo Night at After Hours. So what better place to shoot their engagement session than the campus at UNCC? We hoped to venture downtown as well but dusk and a home Panther game stifled that plan. So, we are meeting next week to take a couple of shots uptown. But I couldn’t wait that long to share with you. Meet Charyl and Josh!

Charyl + Josh ~ Teaser {Charlotte Engagement Photographer}
Had the fortunate opportunity to do another engagement session on the UNCC campus and loved it just as much as the first one. Unlike the first shoot, we focused on all the areas of campus that were staples when I went to school there (where the other shoot took place in most of the new spots that didn’t exist back then). Can’t wait to share the rest. Congrats Charyl and Josh!

Tanner & Lindsay {Charlotte Engagement Photographer}
He:
Likes classic rock and the blues. From what I can tell has a huge heart – you can tell by the way he looks at her. When he told me the story about picking out Lindsay’s engagement ring, I just knew he loved this girl more than he could ever explain. He put so much planning and time into it – it wasn’t just a spur of the moment idea. You could tell there was so much thought behind it.
She:
Loves anything that involves ice cream. She’s from Texas and has the biggest, brightest smile. You can tell just being around her for a couple of minutes the warmth in her personality. She’s quiet but in a way that makes you think it’s only because she isn’t a girl who feels the need to be the center of attention and if you were friends, she would be the one you went to for honest but comforting advice and always be there for you. I’ve only spent one afternoon with her but that was the feeling I got.
They:
Would spend their ideal Saturday just being ‘together’. Maybe drink some coffee on the porch and breathe in the day. You feel relaxed being around them and can’t help but notice how much they gravitate to one another.
I can only imagine how beautiful and heartfelt their wedding will be. I wish you both the best of luck and can’t wait to see wedding photos!
